The accident occurred with a very sharp knife at home while slicing up bread for crumb stuffing when I took my eye off the project for a second and then two hours later I had four stitches.
After the session there is a definite feeling of blood flow in the digit and pulsing inside the digit as the circulation has increased. I went on to ice the thumb to support the physiological process of healing. Science has shown that the use of a laser in wound healing results in better regeneration and faster restoration of structural and functional integrity.
There are many videos and documents supporting the benefits of laser for many types of chronic bodily pain issues and for the type of healing that I needed. I have included some videos at the end of this blog.
We are very fortunate to have cold laser available to us here in Drumheller. If you think you would like to try this give Melanie a call at the clinic.
I won't have to worry about the finger not getting enough massage to reduce the scar and increase the blood flow. I will be using the thumb to massage patients so at the same time the thumb will also get a massage from the work. If this was going to be a scar on a wrist or a scar on some other part of my body I would have to stop and make an effort several times a day to create the stretch and movement so that the scar does not get disorganized and not allow full range of movement. I have advised and worked on many scars on patients with great success. As soon as the stitches come out I will start the work on my thumb.
Be Healthy. Stay Healthy. Massage.
